Drifting Off

Composed by Ken Steen for Robert Black

Drifting Off is primarily constructed from the available natural overtones playable on the double bass, and as such, was conceived as a kind of harmonics étude. The piece was composed by Ken Steen for bassist Robert Black as an acoustic work in 2004 and later reconstructed with accompanying electronics and video. The video, created by Gene Gort, is tied to the amplitude of the bass, allowing the video to drift in and out of view as the bassist performs.
